About
Biography
Mehmet Peker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Ege University, İzmir, Turkey. He completed his B.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology at Middle East Technical University and Ege University, respectively, graduating with High Honors on both occasions. His doctoral dissertation examined the buffering role of action orientation in the emotional labor process through the lens of Personality Systems Interaction Theory.
His research lies at the intersection of work psychology, self-regulation, and emotion. He investigates how individuals manage their emotional experiences at work — particularly through the concepts of emotional labor, action–state orientation, and authentic workplace climates — and how these processes shape engagement, well-being, and performance. He employs a methodologically diverse toolkit including diary studies, longitudinal panel designs, multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, and Bayesian analyses.
Dr. Peker has published in leading international journals including Nature Human Behaviour, Journal of Managerial Psychology, Journal of Personality Assessment, Motivation and Emotion, and Personality and Individual Differences. He has also contributed to large-scale multinational collaborative projects, with co-authored work spanning dozens of countries.
Beyond his academic work, Dr. Peker collaborates with industry partners on applied psychological research, including projects on gamified personality assessment and workplace safety. He serves as a reviewer for several international journals, holds an Erasmus coordination role at Ege University, and co-founded the Ege University Industrial and Organizational Psychology Workgroup. He teaches courses on industrial-organizational psychology, statistical modeling, and social psychology at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
